Texas baby dies in relation to Zika virus

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (WIVB) — CBS contributors in Texas say a baby has died as a result of the Zika virus.

This is the first Zika-related death in Texas.

The baby’s mother had previously traveled to El Salvador while she was pregnant, contributors say. She later returned to Texas and gave birth to the baby in Harris County. The baby died shortly after being born, contributors say.

Sources say it is suspected the mother became infected with the Zika virus during her time in Latin America.

CNN reports that the first Zika-related death in the continental United States occurred in Utah this past June.
