Vehicle crashes during chase; police make gun-related arrest

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Erie County Sheriff’s Office says a driver crashed into two parked cars during a Thursday morning chase.

Officers patrolling in the area of Black Rock and Riverside say they saw a person of interest driving around 7 a.m. They subsequently tried to pull the person over.

When officers tried this, the driver allegedly sped up in an attempted escape. While the driver allegedly tried to get away, they crashed into a couple of parked cars on Royal Ave.

After this, the driver and the vehicle’s passenger got out and tried to run from police, officers say. Deputies ended up capturing the passenger, identified as 20-year-old Buffalo resident Antonio Eckert.

When deputies searched the vehicle, they say they found a loaded semi-automatic handgun “lying in plain view.”

Eckert was subsequently charged with criminal possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm.

He was jailed on $50,000 bail. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
