Hoops pair from Canisius sign to play in college

Madut Ayiy will play at Daemen College and Stafford Trueheart will play for Hofstra University.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A pair of Canisius High School basketball players announced their decision to play college basketball on Wednesday afternoon.

Madut Ayiy will attend Daemen College this fall to play for the Wildcats. As a senior Ayiy averaged 10 points per game, 8.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks.

Standout player Stafford Trueheart also signed to play college basketball at division one Hofstra University. Trueheart, who was named the New York State Class A player of the year, averaged 20.8 points per game, 10.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists in his senior campaign.

“It is just a big weight off my back,” Trueheart said Wednesday afternoon. “I  finally feel like I am ready to go to school now and this is an amazing opportunity. Although there were a lot of accomplishments, I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my teammates, every year I played here we were all brothers and I think that is why we were so good.”
