DEPEW, N.Y. (WIVB) – Many people were without power in Depew overnight.
A spokeswoman for NYSEG says it all stemmed from a utility pole that was on fire in Lancaster. It started around 6:30 Tuesday night.
The Depew Fire Department put out the fire. Officials don’t know what caused it.
Once it was out, NYSEG crews worked to repair the utility pole. Overnight, more than 11 hundred people were without power.
By Wednesday morning, crews were ready to restore the electricity when they noticed another issue. Part of a jumper failed, according to NYSEG. As a result, crews shut off power for 35 hundred customers around 7:45 a.m. to fix the issue.
During that time, a NYSEG spokeswoman says their website was reporting higher outage numbers due to a computer issue.
All three issues have been addressed and residents had power restored around 9 Wednesday morning.
