Dog found dead in apartment; woman accused of long-term abandonment

BROCTON, N.Y. (WIVB) — A dead dog was found in a Chautauqua County apartment, and witnesses say it had been there for a while.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies spoke with locals in Brocton, who said that Kelly Harrell, 33, had left a dog in her E. Main St. apartment for about two months.

The dog was found after a complaint was issued to the Sheriff’s Office last week. This led to Harrell’s arrest on two different animal cruelty charges Thursday.

Following her arrest, Harrell was jailed in Chautauqua County on $2,500 bail. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
