Collins man allegedly found with stolen laptop facing charges for unrelated incident

GOWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Collins man accused of stealing a laptop is not facing charges for theft, but is facing charges for another alleged incident nonetheless.

Just before midnight Monday, Erie County Sheriff’s deputies say they spoke with a Gowanda woman who told them a man got into her car, but did not steal anything.

Later on, a short distance away, the deputies say they found Jeremy Thompson, 35, and charged him with attempted petit larceny and criminal trespassing.

Once he was arrested, deputies say they found Thompson with a stolen laptop, but it was not the complainant’s. The laptop was allegedly stolen from someone else, but that person decided not to press charges.

Thompson will appear in Collins Town Court at a later date. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
