Political expert says Hillary Clinton’s pneumonia could impact election

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — After Sunday’s incident a lot of the focus has been shifted to Hillary Clinton’s health. With just a couple months to go before the election a political science professor says all of the extra attention is not a good thing for Clinton.

The video that shows Clinton appearing to stumble is what has everyone talking. Canisius College Political Science Professor Michael Haselswerdt says Clinton having pneumonia isn’t the issue, he says that her campaign not telling anyone about it was a poor decision.

Donald trump has been questioning Clinton’s health for a while. Haselswerdt says that the incident could have an affect on the election. He doesn’t think she would lose because of it but he says it certainly doesn’t help her either.

“There’s going to be pressure on her to get out believe it or not and we don’t know what shape she’s in, now that’s going to be a question people are going to be asking and I don’t think that’s where she wants the debate to be I think she’d rather be talking about other things. Because of that video it will continue to nag her so it’s just something she’s going to have to continue to deal with,” said Michael Haselswerdt, Canisius College Political Science Professor.

He says if Clinton had to drop out for a health related issue the Democratic National Committee would meet and select someone new by a majority vote. It would be chaotic and although it’s rare it’s certainly not unheard of.

The last time it happened was back in 1972, when Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Thomas Eagleton had to drop out due to mental health issues.
