Sheriff: Drunk Clarence student escapes, punches deputy after ejection from school event

CLARENCE, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Erie County Sheriff’s Office says a drunk Clarence student assaulted an officer during a school social function.

On Friday evening, a 16-year-old girl was ejected from a school event with help from a deputy.

When the deputy tried to take the girl to an anteroom, she ran away and left the school building, officers say.

The deputy then chased after the girl and tried to detain her. In the process, officials say the girl punched the deputy before the officer was able to take her into custody.

This led to charges against the girl, including assaulting an officer, resisting arrest, false personation, obstructing governmental administration, harassment and disorderly conduct.

The girl was released later that night, but still faces future court proceedings. Due to her age, authorities have not released her name.

The deputy suffered facial and upper body injuries, but she is expected to be back to work soon.
