LANCASTER, N.Y. (WIVB) — Numerous thefts are being blamed on two teenagers, according to City of Tonawanda police.
Lancaster resident Warren Bellinger, 18, was charged with two counts of burglary, two different kinds of grand larceny, two counts of unauthorized vehicle use and a slew of other larceny and vehicle charges.
Police say he and a 14-year-old runaway girl from Buffalo went around the area of Hackett Drive and Hinds St. stealing items from vehicles. In addition to that, they were also accused of stealing five cases of candy bars from a high school football booster club volunteer.
Eventually, police say the two found keys inside the center console of a vehicle they were burglarizing and decided to take it for a drive. Police later found the vehicle with many stolen items inside of it.
This was not the first time the pair stole a vehicle, according to police. Authorities also accused the two of stealing another vehicle from a napping homeowner in Tonawanda.
After allegedly stealing one of the vehicles, police say the two were seen wiping its door handles in attempt to get rid of fingerprints. That is the incident that sparked an investigation, according to police.
Tonawanda Police Captain Fredric Foels says the pair tried to clear off the fingerprints after seeing something on a television show.
“All in all we cleared 2 burglaries, 2 car thieves and numerous car larcenies that occurred last weekend,” Foals said. “We still have some unclaimed property including rings, keys and electronic devices. Any people missing items can call us. Detective Lt. Scott Sheehan, Det. David Ray, Det David Ljiljanich along with Patrol Lt. Phillip Hankinson and Officer Nathan Schultz worked long on this case and that resulted in all the charges. The 14 yr old female will face charges in Family court.”
Bellinger was jailed on $20,000 bail.
