CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) – A mother and her 7-year-old son were killed in what police described as a domestic situation in Cheektowaga Thursday.
Their accused killer, the mother’s boyfriend, Shane Stevenson, 31, is charged with two counts of 2nd degree murder. Stevenson pleaded not guilty in Cheektowaga Town Court Friday morning. Police do not believe there are other suspects.
News 4 recently learned more information surrounding the double homicide. According to sources, both victims were strangled.
Police found out about about the murders after the mother’s other child was found abandoned in the afternoon near a church. When officers arrived at the family’s home in the Kingswood Apartment complex on French Road, they found Raina Voll, 30, and Leo Klinger, 7, dead. Officers say they arrested Stevenson at the scene.
During a Friday morning news conference, Assistant Police Chief James Speyer said Stevenson was not the father of either child.
The other child, found abandoned at the church, is now with his father.
A judge ordered Stevenson held without bail for now. His next court date will be September 22 at 8:30 a.m.
A GoFoundMe page has already been set up for the victims.
The 7-year-old victim, Leo Klinger, was a 2nd grade student in the Depew School District. In a letter to parents, the district said their thoughts and prayers are with the family, and that grief counselors are available for students.
