CLARENCE, N.Y. (WIVB) — A teenager from Lancaster has been charged after New York State Police say he robbed an elderly woman at the Eastern Hills Mall.

According to authorities, a 17-year-old put on a mask and approached the woman in the mall’s parking lot. State Police say he then took the 75-year-old’s purse and merchandise before running off.

Police canines tracked the boy to a nearby motel, but officers were not able to find him there.

Later, Troopers got a call from Erie County 911 services. The caller said that a suspicious male tried to get gas, and that the attendant working at the gas station was “alarmed at [his] behavior.”

After authorities were able to get the teen’s license plate, they found him at his home, where he was arrested on felony charges of robbery and grand larceny.

Due to the teen’s age, News 4 has not released his name.
