Self-proclaimed heroin addict accused of stealing from vehicles overnight

TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A self-proclaimed heroin addict was charged with larceny after allegedly stealing from vehicles overnight.

City of Tonawanda police officers say Joseph Schneider, 23, was seen going through vehicles in the area of Minerva, Elmwood Park and Fletcher St.

Schneider, who claims he has a “10 bag-a-day heroin addiction,” told police he was looking for money to support his habit.

The man was allegedly found with loose change, keys and gift cards taken from the vehicles.

After being arrested around 12:30 a.m., Schneider was taken into custody to await a court appearance. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
