Batavia man found with dead cat in oven admits to crime

BATAVIA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Batavia man who was found with a dead cat in his oven has pleaded guilty to felony aggravated cruelty to animals.

Darren Annovi, 42, had no criminal record before he was arrested in the middle of July.

Firefighters who entered his E. Main St. home said they saw light smoke everywhere, and the cause was determined to be the cooking cat.

Police subsequently interviewed and arrested Annovi, jailing him on $5,000 bail.

Since he pleaded guilty on Tuesday, Annovi could face 5 years shock probation with 6 months in jail or 4 months of weekends in jail.

Annovi, who remains free on bail, will be sentenced on November 29. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
