Canisius College premiers ‘Dream Girl’ documentary film produced by alumna

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The red carpet is being rolled out at Canisius College’s Montante Cultural Center for the screening of a documentary film called ‘Dream Girl.’

‘Dream Girl’ was produced by Canisius alumna Erin Bagwell who graduated from the college in 2009. Bagwell studied Digital Media Arts at Canisius, and since then she’s produced her first feature-length documentary film.

‘Dream Girl’ showcases empowering stories of women-run companies and the founders. The women showcased are from all over the world from a variety of different backgrounds including tech, fashion, non-profit organizations and advertising.

The film received rave reviews, and it’s had more than 200 requests for screenings around the world. ‘Dream Girl’ premiered in New York City back in June, and it was even shown at the White House in May.

“We follow 5 main characters around and learn all about their lives and their businesses and how they’re following their dreams. I’ve always been really obsessed with the idea of quitting your job and following your passion and when I met my friend Julie Sygiel who ran a company called Dear Kate for 6 years I was blown away because she was my age and she had investors and she had employees. When I had the idea to showcase Julie and other women’s stories like her I took it and I launched a kick starter campaign to fund the film and we raised $100,000 in 30 days,” said Erin Bagwell, ‘Dream Girl’ Producer/Director.

Bagwell has received a lot of recognition for the film, she and her co-producer were even named Oprah’s ‘Super Soul 100’ which honors 100 extraordinary individuals. Tonight’s event is completely free and the premiere starts at 7 o’clock. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
