18-year-old accused of stealing student’s backpack at bus stop

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo police arrested an 18-year-old after they say he stole a backpack from a student at a bus stop.

Two students were waiting for a bus at Lewis and Howard St. around 9 a.m. Monday when police say a van pulled up.

According to officers, Cale Klembczyk, 18, the passenger, jumped out and approached one of the students, demanding “all of his stuff.”

Allegedly armed with a gun, Klembczyk stole one of the students’ backpacks and left in the van.

Shortly after this, on Laux St., police say they found a van matching the description of the one in the alleged robbery.

Police found Klembczyk inside and took him into custody, charging him with robbery/forcible theft with a deadly weapon, menacing, and criminal possession of stolen property.

The backpack was recovered.
