NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) — More students in Niagara Falls can now take part in music class thanks to Music is Art.
The foundation has donated more than 20 thousand dollars worth of musical instruments to the Abate Elementary School in Niagara Falls.
Music is Art was founded by Goo Goo Dolls bassist Robby Takac. Though many students won’t go on to play professionally music teachers say learning how to play an instrument will enhance their lives in many ways.
“Really going to help, allow students that normally wouldn’t be able to play because we had run out. Now they’ll be able to try out an instrument this year” said Michael Kineke, Abate Elementary School Band teacher.
“Unfortunately music and art is usually one of the first things to be cut in school budgets so that’s where we try to step in and do what we can to help and we’re proud to have put over a half million dollars worth of instruments back into our community so far,” said Tracy Shattuck, Music is Art Executive Director.
Some of the instruments donated include french horns, drums and saxophones.
Musical instrument donations were also made to schools in the Buffalo Public School district.
