BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Road patrol deputies with the Erie County Sheriff’s Office plan to test out body cameras.
The first Field Test & Evaluation period will occur in mid-November and is expected to last two months. They will test one manufacturer’s cameras during this time.
After this, they will conduct another evaluation with another manufacturer’s cameras.
These periods are only tests though, as the Sheriff’s Office still needs to find funding to pay for cameras. With 150 road patrol deputies, this could cost up to $300,000.
During the tests, the Sheriff’s Office will work with the District Attorney’s Office to work on policy and procedures related to retrieval and evidence storage.
