CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Canadian woman, illegally living in the United States since the early 1970s, has been arrested on a charge of voter fraud.

Shirley Anne Conners, 62, lives in Cheektowaga, and has been in America, against the law, for decades.

Since 1995, prosecutors say the woman who went by the last name Faragalli voted in more than 20 federal, state and local elections. Most recently, Conners voted in the Democratic Presidential Primary in April.

After being charged with making a false claim to United States citizenship in order to vote, Conners was placed in the custody of Immigration and Customs officers.

She could spend five years in prison if convicted of the charge. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
