BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — With Thursday’s announcement of improvements on the Thruway, the Department of Transportation announced changes coming to the Buffalo Skyway one day later.
Crews plan to perform maintenance and rehabilitation on the Skyway to improve the busy bridge, which is used by more than 40,000 vehicles every day.
Starting Monday, a three-part series of projects will begin when a netting system is installed in the Canalside area from the Buffalo River to Commercial St.
In Spring, crews will then repair the bridge fascia on the entire length of the Skyway.
In the final part, which is set to take place in Winter of next year, workers will repair structural steel and replace bridge joints.
Projects like these mean there will be lane closures in place. Starting Monday, daily closures will take place from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. on the westbound lane between the Outer Harbor Drive exit and I-190. The eastbound lane in that area will close from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Crews will be working for approximately six weeks on the first project.
