Man accused of murdering his mother in South Buffalo home

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- Buffalo police have an individual in custody in connection to a domestic homicide involving a mother and her son.

South District officers responded to a call just after 5 p.m. to the victim’s home in the 1700 block of South Park Avenue.

Homicide detectives say Froilan Torres, 41, struck his 57 year-old mother, Gloria Rivera, in the head several times with an object. The woman was taken to Mercy Hospital where she was later declared deceased.

Torres was taken into police custody Sunday and arraigned in Buffalo City Court Monday morning on a charge of 2nd degree Murder.

When the judge informed Torres he was being charged with murder, he expressed disbelief. He said “excuse me?” several times, then said “I was just told my mother died.”

Torres is next due in court Thursday October 13 for a felony hearing. He’s being held without bail. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
