Driver with 37 license suspensions accused of starting police chase while drunk


BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — After receiving a report of shots fired at Clinton St. and Jefferson Ave., Buffalo police were led on a car chase that ended with a crash.

Around 2:30 a.m., officers tried to stop a car they say was related to the shots. The driver refused to pull over, and so, police chased him through the east side.

Twice during the chase, the driver crashed into a police truck. His vehicle finally stopped once he crashed again at Kensington and Clarence.

The driver, who suffered minor injuries in the crash, was identified as Walter Dennis, 40, according to police.

Dennis was allegedly uncooperative with police.

Officers charged him with reckless endangerment, fleeing an officer in motor vehicle, DWI and a number of traffic violations.
