Runaway child leads to alleged drug bust in Albion

ALBION, N.Y. (WIVB) — Local authorities say they found a runaway child from Albany in an Albion motel room earlier this month.

Albion Police worked with the Orleans County Major Felony Crime Task Force to execute a search warrant at the motel on West Ave.

Once inside, police found the child and two others — Andrew Coley, 18, of Albion, and a 17-year-old girl.

That’s not all they say they found though, as police pressed drug charges against the latter two.

Police say they found a large amount of heroin, crack cocaine, marijuana and prescription pills packaged for sale. In addition to that, there was also cash and drug paraphernalia in the room, according to officials.

Coley and the teenager were charged with criminal controlled substance possession, unlawfully dealing with a child and endangering the welfare of a child.

After being arraigned in the Town of Albion, Coley and the teen were jailed in Orleans County on $100,000 bail.

The runaway child was taken back to Albany. Officials expect to make more arrests related to the incident. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
