BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A yard display is getting a lot of attention in South Buffalo. Some members of the community are outraged after a noose was placed in front of the home in the Seneca Babcock community.
The display includes a noose and an upside-down American flag. Some neighbors say it’s a Halloween decoration, others say it’s just a political statement.
On Saturday afternoon, the Buffalo Chapter of Showing up for Racial Justice (SURJ) held an event condemning the display. They say it’s racist and doesn’t belong in their community.
One SURJ volunteer, Caitlin Crowell, said, “But if it is not his intention he certainly knows about it now, and he knows that for millions hundreds of millions of people that stands for racist lynching why on earth is it still there.”
One unidentified woman near the home in question claimed to know the homeowner, she said, “The message isn’t racist it means if Trump doesn’t become president we’re basically hung, if Hillary becomes president we’re doomed, we’re hung.”
News 4 tried reaching out to the homeowner multiple times, but he did not answer the door.
