Toddler dies in Jamestown house fire

JAMESTOWN (WIVB) – Fire officials in Jamestown are investigating an early morning fire that took the life of a toddler.

Police tell News 4 the for broke out around 8:00 Saturday morning at a home on Prendergast Avenue.

When crews arrived on the scene, heavy smoke and fire was pouring from the second story of a two-floor apartment house.

Officials say two people were in front of the building and told them their child was trapped in the home.

Crews immediately entered the structure and pulled the child out, but say there was nothing they could do.

The family is being assisted by the red cross and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
