TORONTO, Ont. (WIVB) — The Buffalo-rooted restaurant chain that invented the world-famous chicken wing has expanded yet again.
Anchor Bar announced on Tuesday that they are opening two new locations in Toronto and Richmond, Va.
David Copperthwaite, an Anchor Bar franchisee owner in Burlington, Ont., opened a location in Toronto on Sept. 29. The building has 300 seats and various televisions broadcasting sports.
“It has been such a pleasure being a part of the Anchor Bar family over the past several years,” Copperthwaite said. “We’re excited to expand our relationship with the brand and extend Anchor Bar’s reach across the Southern Ontario market.”
The Virginia location has not opened yet, but looks to open its doors this Winter. It will be the Southeast’s first Anchor Bar.
The man who owns this location, David Allred, is a Richmond native.
“I’ve been wanting to open a restaurant for some time, so when I heard about an opportunity with Anchor Bar, I jumped at the chance,” Allred said. “There just isn’t anything else like it in Richmond, and I think the people here will enjoy the unique flavors you can only find at the Home of the Original Chicken Wing.”
“These two new locations are another exciting expansion for our brand, which continues to grow across North America,” Vice President Mark Dempsey of the Anchor Bar Franchise & Development Company said. “We’ve added a total of three new locations this year, starting with Amherst, N.Y. To us, it’s a sign that people are hungry for Buffalo’s Original Chicken Wings — and we’re happy to serve them up!”
The original Anchor Bar was opened in downtown Buffalo in 1935 and invented the chicken wing in 1964. Since then, eight other Anchor Bar restaurants have opened. They are located in Burlington, Ont.; Hamilton, Ont.; Darien Lake Theme Park; Williamsville; Amherst and soon, Richmond, Va.
