BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)– Many counties are experiencing a high wind advisory throughout the day.
People are bracing for these winds to keep picking up through the day.
“If it gets really bad, we’ll stay inside,” said Laurie Ruffino from Buffalo
“If it gets gustier well that’ll be okay but it’s not too bad at the moment,” said Dave and Heather who are visiting.
The two are from England, traveling the northeast to check out fall foliage.
“The leaves will be blown off from the wind and that’ll disappoint our holiday,” said Dave.
While the winds might ruin their fun, for others it’s no game.
“Due to the high winds, we can’t do any type of work,” said James Naples, owner of Naples Roofing.
His day started early – heading to each work site, making sure all materials are removed or secured.
“It’s very important not to have anything that can fly off and damage property,” said Naples.
He says this weather is messing up their time tables for when they’ll complete projects
“We’re definitely behind.”
The business owner says when it comes to safety for his crews and others, it’s an easy call to make to close all sites until the high winds subside.
“It’s just too risky,” said Naples.
And it could be a risky ride home for some people as gusts could reach up to 50mph. The Sheriff’s Office is reminding people to keep two hands on wheel, alter speed and if there’s a power outage at a light treat it like a stop sign.
That wind advisory is in effect until 8 tonight.
