BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — One of the men arrested during raids at four Buffalo restaurants Tuesday appeared in court the next day.
Don Tequila, El Agave, Agave and La Divina were all owned by 42-year-old Sergio Ramses Mucino. He and dozens of others were arrested in relation to undocumented workers at the restaurants.
Of the men arrested, Jose Sanchez-Ocampo, appeared in court Wednesday. Described as Mucino’s right hand man, Sanchez-Ocampo and his wife are illegally in the United States. They have a child who is a legal U.S. citizen.
The 37-year-old’s role in the operation was to transport and recruit workers, as well as pay them, prosecutors say. His attorney entered a ‘not guilty’ plea for him in court.
Sanchez-Ocampo will be detained until at least his next court appearance Friday, the same day La Divina is set to reopen.
