Halloween sales expected to break records

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Halloween is about two weeks away. We know many people are still figuring out which costume they should wear for the holiday. As a result, we looked into the top trends.

Experts say superhero, animal, and princess costumes are the most popular for kids.

Remember, the Pokémon Go craze this year? There are costumes for that. Kids, teens and young adults may be interested in those.

If you don’t want a full costume, you could also go to the store and just pick up some accessories.

“If you start with the witch, we have a witch dress. We also have the hats and makeup. We have everything you need to accessorize for a witch. The pirate section is also pretty popular. We have pirate wigs, pirate hats, etc. We have accessories for every costume,” Casey Becker, the general manager of Party City Buffalo said.

Top costume picks for adults are the witch and pirate. Also, because we’re in an election year, some people may choose to dress up as the presidential nominees.

All of the holiday spending is going to add up. The National Retail Federation expects sales to break records this Halloween season. With over 171 million Americans planning to celebrate this year, spending an average of $82.93. Analysts expect spending to reach $8.4 billion.
