Man found in WNY sentenced after two decades on the run

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — 21 years of fake names has ultimately led to two years in prison for a Cheektowaga man.

Since 1995, Scott Keener, 47, has made his way through life with false documents like U.S. passports and driver’s licenses.

In 1996, after being taken into state custody in Colorado, Keener escaped. He later purchased false identification documents associated with a person who had been missing from his Virginia family since 1993.

Keener bought the documents from someone on Craigslist for $300.

While on the lam for more than two decades, Keener has gone by at least three other names — Aaron Silverman, Paul Robison and Scott Walker. In that time, he has registered to vote, crossed into Canada, received federal financial student aid and obtained Social Security cards.

Authorities learned of Keener’s presence in the local region this past January.

He was eventually charged and convicted of aggravated identity theft. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
