Report: Babies should sleep in same room as parents for at least 6 months

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. (WIVB) — A new report from the American Academy of Pediatrics says that babies should sleep in the same room as their parents for at least the first six months of their lives.

That being said, they still should not sleep in the same bed. The group recommends that infants sleep on surfaces like cribs.

Although the report says babies should sleep in the same room for at least six months, one year is the optimal time.

The group released the report in an effort to combat the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and other unexpected deaths like suffocation.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say SIDS and other sleep-associated issues kill 3,500 babies per year.
