AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) — The parents of students at the Amherst Nursery School came together to raise close to ten thousand dollars.
They did it through fundraising, raffles and contributions from the community and local businesses. The co-operative preschool has been around for more than 78 years and it’s due for some safety upgrades.
Parents say their motivation was to make the school affordable for all families, by avoiding a tuition increase. This week parents are doing a change drive at the Nursery School and even the toddlers are in on it!
“New York state is really special in that we do have a Universal Pre-K system but it’s lottery based and not every family gets in so it’s really important to have local early education options for the people that aren’t able to get in via Universal preschool,” said Jenny Walsh, Parent.
