Man accused of trying to make expired inspection sticker look legal

TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — City of Tonawanda police say they caught a man driving around in an uninsured vehicle with a fake inspection sticker.

When Travis Payne, 40, was stopped on Fillmore Ave., police say he had two suspensions on his license — one for failing to answer a summons, and another for failing to pay child support.

In addition to that, his vehicle had allegedly not been registered since 2014.

When police looked closer at the sticker on Payne’s windshield, they say they found something fishy. Police say Payne attached a red piece of plastic film on the windshield’s outside to make the yellow ticket appear as if it was not expired.

Payne was charged with having a fake inspection sticker as well as vehicle and traffic violations. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
