BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Following the departure of U.S. Attorney William Hochul Jr., a temporary replacement has been named.
James P. Kennedy Jr. has been chosen as the Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of New York.
“I am honored to be named Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of New York,” Kennedy said. “As a native of western New York, I look forward to working with our outstanding law enforcement partners at the local, state and federal levels and serving the people of the community in which I was born and raised.”
Kennedy was a magna cum laude graduate of Hamilton College and attended Buffalo Law School, graduating cum laude in 1988. He served as the Buffalo Law Review’s editor.
After law school, Kennedy worked as a Confidential Law Assistant, and later as an Assistant U.S. Attorney.
Kennedy has served various other roles since then, including the Western District of New York’s Criminal Chief.
Kennedy is a resident of Grand Island. His wife, Stephanie, is an employee of the Amherst School District.
