ST. CATHARINES, ON, CA (WIVB) — One week from today, millions of Americans will be heading to the polls, casting their votes for the next president. It’s an election our neighbors to the north say they’re following very closely; closer than any other U.S. race they’ve ever followed before.

It’s actually very scary,” said Elsie, a St. Catharines resident.  “We don’t know which way things can turn.”

“It’s getting hard to watch,” said Shane Oligvie, from Toronto. “I have to be honest with you — it is, it’s getting tough to watch.”

The world’s eyes on the on United States right now as the finish line for the race to the White House is nearing.

“The outcome of this election is going to affect us regardless of who ends up winning,” said Oligvie. “It’s been a long year of watching it up here for sure.”

“With Hillary and with Trump, you don’t know which one is worse,” said Elsie.

The Garden, a Toronto-based company Oligvie works at, is being a social media initiative called ‘Tell America its Great’.

“We kind of felt like America was in a rough patch right now with every thing going on so we figured what could it hurt to send some good will across the border,” said Oligvie.

We hit the streets, asking some Canadians what is it about America they think is great.

“They’re our closest neighbor,” said Rick, from St. Catharines.  “Without America, I think there’d be trouble.”

“I enjoy going over there and doing different things; seeing different things ,” said Elsie.

The campaign launched in mid-October and now, more than one million Canadians have sent good vibes to us in the U.S.

“It’s been overwhelmingly positive,” said Oligvie.  “It might seem bad – you’re kind of caught up in the mix of it right now, but from the outside looking in, America is still a pretty great place.”
