Parole officers spend Halloween monitoring sex offenders

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — News 4 tagged along with parole officers as they kept an eye on registered sex offenders this Halloween.

Those sex offenders being monitored are not allowed to have candy at their houses, greet trick-or-treaters at the door or dress in costume.

We spoke with a sex offender who was checked on by officers during trick-or-treating hours.

“I think this is an excellent idea, and hopefully it gives the community somewhat a peace of mind, knowing that there is protection out there,” the man said.

According to the state, there are more than 2,000 sex offenders living in Erie County. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
