BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – On Thursday Veterans, Servicemembers, and their families have an opportunity to help others and have their voices heard.
A forum will be held at the Connecticut Street Armory to learn about the benefits and services that are available.
A spokesman for the state department of Veterans Affairs said the meeting will help clear up any misconceptions about benefits. For example, he explained that people are often unsure about what’s offered to those who served during wartime.
“I’ve had veterans so many times say, ‘Well I’m not eligible for that because I didn’t serve in combat.’ But, when the law says war time, that refers to serving during a period of war. You could serve stateside as long as you served during a period of war and you’re qualified as a wartime veteran,” Benjamin Pomerance said. He’s the Deputy Director for Program Development with the State Department of Veterans Affairs.
Thursday’s meeting will take place at 2p.m. at 184 Connecticut Street in Buffalo. The forum is free.
