Man pleads not guilty to killing his mother

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A man accused of killing his own mother faced a judge on Thursday morning.

Froilan Torres, 41, was indicted on a charge of first-degree manslaughter. He was originally charged with second-degree murder.

Buffalo police were called to a home on South Park Ave. in October, where Torres was accused of beating Gloria Rivera, 57, to death. She had been rushed to a hospital, but later died.

Torres pleaded not guilty Thursday in court.

If convicted of the charge, he could spend up to 25 years in jail. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
