“City on the rise” mural debuts in downtown Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Grab your selfie sticks and head to the Washington Market. There’s a new “Greetings from Buffalo mural” on the side of the building.

The people behind it hope your pictures with the postcard, will help the Queen City go viral.

Local artist Casey Milbrand says the concept is “City on the rise.” He has been planning the mural since April, and has spent the last month bringing it to life.

“Both of the Statues of Liberty on the Liberty Building are incorporated and I think it takes into account the overall sunset over Lake Erie,” said Patrick Kaler, president of Visit Buffalo Niagara.

“The sunburst was taken right from City Hall so it gives that nod to the historic aspect of our city, plus it’s just vibrant. It also reflects the whole new Buffalo that we have.”

At the unveiling, a News 4 photographer was lucky enough to capture a special moment.

Artist Casey Milbrand proposed to his boyfriend in true Buffalo fashion by using a Paula’s Donut.
