Lockport man arrested for robbing two elderly women

(Matthew Biles)

LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Lockport man is facing several charges for robbing two elderly women and assaulting one of them.

Police say the robberies happened just one day apart.

State Police in Lockport say on Nov. 4, 31-year-old Matthew Biles pushed an 87-year-old woman to the ground while she walking into a building off Robinson Road, and then took her purse and ran.

Police say the woman was injured during the robbery. She broke her left arm, possibly fractured her nose and suffered multiple abrasions.

The next day, on Nov. 5, police say Biles robbed a 73-year-old woman leaving the same place. He took her purse and ran away.

Three bystanders chased Biles down and restrained him until police arrived.

Biles was sent to the Niagara County Jail on $50,000 bail.
