Flags to be flown at half-staff Tuesday in honor of Clarence native killed in Afghanistan

ALBANY, N.Y. (WIVB) — In honor of Capt. Andrew Byers, a Clarence native killed while serving the Unites States in Afghanistan, all flags on state government buildings have been directed to fly at half-staff Tuesday.

Byers died on Thursday after sustaining wounds during combat with enemy forces.

“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I extend sincere condolences to Capt. Byers’ fellow soldiers, friends and family,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. “We are saddened by this loss and join his loved ones in honoring Capt. Byers’ bravery and service to our nation.”
