ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) — Orchard Park police say a woman was obviously drunk when they arrested her for DWI and other charges Friday morning.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., police got a call about a reckless driver going south on Abbott Rd. between Milestrip and New Era Stadium.

When police responded, they say they noticed the vehicle drift into the northbound lane. In addition to that, they say another driver pulled up to the first car, trying to get the driver to stop.

When a police officer came up to the vehicle, the driver allegedly pulled away slowly and went past a red light. The officer eventually was able to reach in, grab the steering wheel, and put the vehicle in park.

According to police, the driver, identified as Karen Kaitanowski, 60, was not able to remove her seatbelt and had to be helped by the officer.

When she tried to get out of the car, police say Kaitanowski fell onto her back in the intersection of Abbott and Rt. 20A. Officers then picked her up and carried her to a patrol vehicle.

Police did not even bother giving the Orchard Park woman field sobriety tests, as they say she undeniably appeared intoxicated.

At the police station, Kaitanowski submitted to a breath test, where officers say she was more than four times over the legal alcohol limit. Her blood alcohol content allegedly measured at 0.34 percent.

Kaitanowski was searched, and police say two unopened miniature bottles of alcohol were found in her bra. An opened bottle was allegedly found in her purse.

Overall, Kaitanowski was charged with DWI,  driving with a BAC greater than 0.18 percent, passing a red light, having an open alcohol container and five other traffic and vehicle violations.
