LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) — New York State Police say they caught a robbery suspect as he was driving away early Thursday morning.

Around 2:20 a.m., authorities were dispatched to a robbery at a Tim Hortons on Robinson Road in Lockport.

As State Police made their way there, they say a vehicle with no headlights on passed by them on Lockport Rd. The vehicle matched the description of the one authorities were looking for.

Troopers turned on the vehicle, which then went off the roadway and back on again. State Police then pulled the driver over.

The driver was indeed the suspect in the Tim Hortons robbery, Troopers say.

Identified as David Dexter, 31, of Lockport, he was charged with robbery, criminal possession of a controlled substance and a number of traffic violations. The drug charge came against Dexter when State Police say they found a crack pipe in his possession.

Dexter was arraigned in Lockport Town Court.
