Gov. Cuomo announces investigation into possible hate crime in Wellsville

Wellsville, N.Y. (WIVB)- Governor Andrew Cuomo has ordered an investigation into a possible hate crime in Wellsville.

Earlier this week someone spray-painted a swastika on the dugout at the Quackenbush Field softball field, along with the words “make America white again”.

The graffiti has been painted over. Police are searching for whoever is responsible. On Saturday, Governor Cuomo announced a joint investigation between New York State Police and the State Division of Human Rights.

The Governor released a statement saying,” “New York has zero tolerance for bigotry, fear and hatred, and those who seek to undermine the core values this state and nation were founded upon. I have ordered a full investigation into this deplorable act, and those responsible for this conduct will be held to the fullest extent of the law. New York is one of the most inclusive and open communities in the world – this type of behavior is not who we are, and not who we will ever be.” provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
