UB men’s hoops tops Niagara in season opener

Willie Conner's 20 points lead Bulls to season-opening win in Big 4 matchup

LEWISTON, N.Y. (WIVB) — The two-time defending MAC champion UB Bulls staved off a second-half surge by the Niagara Purple Eagles to win 76-66 in each team’s season opener Friday night at the Gallagher Center.

Matt Scott scored 21 points to lead Niagara within three points in the second half, but Willie Conner’s 20 points were enough to lead the Bulls to a ten-point victory. UB did not have point guard C.J. Massinburg, who is battling mono.

The Bulls head to Xavier on Monday, while the Purple Eagles head to Providence, R.I. to face Brown on Sunday.
