TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — 14 counts of petit larceny came against a North Tonawanda woman after City of Tonawanda police say she stole money from a Tops store where she worked.

Joanne Swan, 35, allegedly took money from a cash register at a location on Niagara St.

While working as an overnight cashier, Swan’s thefts allegedly started back in September. A number of money shortages totaling roughly $500 were noticed over a period of time, police say.

Swan claimed to be having “financial difficulties,” leading to the alleged thefts.

She will be back in court on Nov. 22.
