BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – This afternoon temperatures will fall from the 50s and 60s into the 30s and 40s. Rain showers will develop as a cold front moves through the area. Along with rain, wind speeds will increase greatly. By evening rain will mix with snow showers. Eventually, the wintry mix will change to snow while shifting southward toward the Ski Country. Lake enhancement will result from the significantly colder temperatures over the relatively warmer water of Lake Erie. We could see a slushy accumulation around the metro Sunday where as 6-12″ will be possible across the higher terrain of Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties by late Sunday. Below is a look at potential snowfall totals. After some additional snowfall Sunday night, the snow tapers to a few lighter lake effect snow showers or flurries Monday morning. Since this snow will be falling at a temperature near or slightly above freezing, it is expected to be clumpy and wet in consistency. With colder temperatures later Sunday night the top layers will be a bit fluffier consistency.
