Mayor of Tonawanda proposes to his girlfriend inside the White House

TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Mayor of Tonawanda, Rick Davis, asked his girlfriend Megan Morrow to marry him inside the White House earlier this week!

Davis was one of 20 mayors who went to the White House Monday for an event recognizing Mayors across the country for their role in reducing veteran homelessness.

Davis brought his girlfriend with him, little did she know he also brought a surprise too.

At one point Megan put her purse and shawl down, thinking they were about to take a picture but when she turned around Rick was on one knee. He said she was surprised, asked what he was doing and the best part, she said yes!

“During the proposal I actually had to stand up and kind of steady her because she looked like she was getting a little light headed and wobbly on her feet. It was surreal very excited, very grateful that they allowed me to do that,” said Rick Davis, City of Tonawanda Mayor.

Davis says he emailed the White House to ask for permission first, and they were all for it. He says on the way there though a TSA agent almost blew his cover, but fortunately his now fiance did not hear the agent ask if it was a ring. Davis managed to tell him shhh just in time to not spoil the surprise! provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
