CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Get your camouflage ready! Deer season for shotgun and rifle hunters opens up for most New Yorkers on Saturday.
On Friday, hunters were stocking up on ammo, clothing, and other essentials to hit the woods.
Kyle Crosby, a Product Training Specialist at Cabela’s, said,”Usually hunting is always thought as real simple, you’re going out there, using your senses and things like that. But today’s marketplace offers so many different products and technologies. The biggest thing this year is people have been coming in looking for range finders, or the best pair of binoculars.”
At Cabela’s in Cheektowaga, hunters hit the shelves to stock up, while would-be hunters waited in line to get licensed.
“We’ve had a lot of people in here getting all of their last minute supplies, ammo, their scents, their scent blockers, tree stands for some of those people that were really waiting until the last minute,” said Crosby.
Deer season in Western New York first opened up to bow-hunters on October 1st. That season closed on Friday. When the sun rises on Saturday – it will mark the opening of the regular season.
Crosby said, “It’s an exciting time of the year, my favorite time of the year, I think a lot of people can say that too. Good luck to everybody going out tomorrow and hopefully you can get a successful hunt.”
