Thanksgiving Day turkeys donated to dozens of Buffalo families

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Thanksgiving is just days away and on Saturday dozens of Buffalo families took home a free turkey.

A turkey raffle was held at Public School 76 Saturday morning. It is part of the district’s new education bargain with students and parents.

The city mission donated 35 turkeys and the food company Goya, donated rice, beans and spices to go with the turkeys.

Families, teachers and school officials shared their holiday traditions with one another.

“The way we celebrate it is a little different here in our school, a Hispanic community lots of, I was learning today how they prepare their turkeys with all of the different seasonings and spices. Goya had sent some Saison I think it’s called and other seasonings for their turkeys,” said Public School 76 principal, Kathy Foy.

Families also had the chance to participate in activities to promote wellness at the raffle. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
