72-year-old who died after suspected tree stand fall identified

CONCORD, N.Y. (WIVB) — An elderly man who Erie County Sheriff’s deputies believe fell out of a tree stand in Concord, and later died, has been identified.

A friend found Wladyslaw Wielgus, 72, unresponsive in a field along Wyandale Rd. Saturday.

Deputies think Wielgus fell out of a tree stand on Friday and tried to make his way back to the road. When Wielgus was found, he was wearing jeans and a hoodie, but footwear was discovered along his trail, and a crossbow was found near a tree stand.

After a medical examination, it was determined that Wielgus had a broken leg, jaw and sternum. He died from his injuries.
